About Color Extract

Precision color gamut analysis for print and production

Color Extract is a precision gamut analysis tool that computes three-dimensional convex hulls from CGATS.17 spectral and CIELab datasets, then renders device-specific gamuts using ICC profile conversions. Where most color tools estimate a device's range, Color Extract measures it — producing a real boundary surface in Lab space that you can inspect, compare, and export.

The tool parses CGATS color data, calculates spectral-weighted 3D convex hull boundaries, and derives gamut hulls that can be compared side by side. It also extracts and converts colors from RGB TIFF images using an exact color enumeration flow, then exports the results as vector PDF swatches, image-faithful mosaics, or tab-delimited data files. A built-in color space converter handles individual and batch CIELab, RGB, and LCh values so you can generate printable swatches for any working space.

What it does

3D Gamut Hulls

Computes true convex hull boundaries in CIELab space from CGATS.17 spectral and Lab datasets — not approximations.

ICC Profile Conversion

Renders device-specific gamuts using ICC profile conversions so you see what a real device, inkset, or substrate can reproduce.

TIFF Color Extraction

Enumerates exact colors from RGB TIFFs and exports them as vector PDF swatches, image-faithful mosaics, or tab-delimited data.

Color Space Conversion

Convert individual or batch CIELab, RGB, and LCh values into printable swatches across sRGB, Adobe RGB, and ProPhoto working spaces.

Who it's for

  • Color management professionals verifying device gamuts
  • Prepress technicians comparing inksets and substrates
  • Print production specialists exporting reference swatch books
  • Color-curious creatives exploring reproducible color boundaries

Who builds it

Color Extract is developed and maintained by Schilling Inkjet Consulting, a consultancy focused on inkjet production, color science, and industrial print workflows. Every conversion and measurement is calculated to the best of our ability, and we welcome feedback when something looks off — if you see something, say something.
